The site, located in an exclusive residential area, was part of a large estate with a well-developed garden. The land falls gently to the north with views of the mountains to the north and west. Specimen trees were scattered throughout the site. All established trees were to be retained. The access road was placed adjacent to a row of oaks, and the five wedge shaped sites form a narrow public frontage to the road with wide frontages on the garden. The houses were designed as an interrelated group, each responding to particularities of topography and vegetation. The differences were particularly stressed in the design of the living areas and entry sequences. All houses respond to a common series of principles in organization and orientation. Each house has a stepped ramp leading from the garden to roofs planted with ground cover, extending the garden space both functionally and visually.
